Social Psychology. The quest for 17 and above.

For my class in social psychology, me and my classmates had to form a group for an assignment. Among the 5 questions to choose from, we choose answer the question about cult recruitment techniques.

During the week when the lecturer brief the class about it, I was absent. Naturally, I asked my teammates on what he said. Among all the things, what caught my attention was that he said it is very difficult to score 17 and above out of 20 marks. Me being me, that is the only score group I want to be in.

So the following weeks, I pushed my teammates hard; staying back in the library until late in the evening and as often as we could. During the course of writting the assignment, we kept in mind that every sentence in it deserve to be in a quality paper.

At first there was the first draft, which were less than what we aim for. In fact, it was only a mediocre paper that could do so much better. The lecturer said instead of digging a 10 feet wide pond but only 2 inch deep, we should dig 4 feet wide and 5 feet deep. In other words, more depth.

Next was the 2nd draft. This time was better but still not what we (or at least me) aimed for. What we’re lacking is our synthesis and analysing skills. Not exactly something we could acquire overnight, but thankfully, we started ahead and spent a lot of time on cult cases so we have good to excellent knowledge about the subject. Then it is back to the drawing boards, or rather, to hit the books again.

To make the paper better, we asked ourselves why this happen, why that happen, and what is going on through his or her mind during that. We asked ourselves enough questions until we get a damn good answer.

We kept working and working on it until the final hour for submission. Every one felt they did what they could and it’s one of the best work or at least paper they produce. Long story short, I went to see the lecturer today and we got 17. The highest among the whole class.

For that i’m happy, but it could be better. The lecturer said we could potentially get a 19 if we fine tune the paper a little bit more. Mother fucking 19, since when do anyone I know get a mother fucking 19 for their assignment? Have I ever get a mother fucking 19 before?

However, it’s not about bragging or marks or scoring like a super genius. It is the lesson that if we aim for what we want, we could get it. We definately could.

Then again, thanks to my teammates: Casper, Issac, Colin, Grace and Nelson for being patient with me and sacrificing most of your time for this. Couldn’t have done this without you guys. I know at times I don’t make sense or is rude, but just thanks anyway for sticking it up. You guys get 17 for the paper but score a perfect 20 in friendship.

I typed the whole thing on my iPhone just to show my dedication.

What’s up with this mamak stall?

If you ask me, it’s a real pity for the husband and wife owner. Not only is their staff too slow, imcompetant, occasionally forgot what you order, they seem to not understand simple English too. I was ordering a burger to go and said I’ll be coming 30 minutes later to go pick it up. 30 minutes later I returned and the burger haven’t even started to be cooked yet.

Worst, the two owners have to deal with their lesbian daughter who is constantly on the phone. All she does is just sit there, look grumpy, and collect money. And she can’t even do it with the least bit of efficiency. Oh I swear the face she gave to people, as if she could do better. As if.

Oh, and the burger sucks too.

I was at my cousin brother wedding few nights back. For several years I’ve never been to any wedding dinner except for my sister’s one few weeks back.

What was great about this particular wedding is that they still have kareoke. So there I was expecting nothing and then this girl went up and sang. Then a couple of drunk aunty and uncle went up and gave us a little of ear torture.

Going back to the girl, she was still singing at a corner of the room when everyone was leaving to go home. At least she isn’t all that bad. But could practice a little self control.
